TinyMerch Challenge: A Merch Design Competition for Students (2026)

The TinyMerch Challenge is a merch design competition for students and community builders, and it is how TinyFish is making its first merch drop. Instead of a brand team picking a hoodie in a meeting room, we are asking the people who actually use TinyFish to design it. You make something creative, you post it, and the best idea becomes a limited-edition TinyFish drop.
This post covers everything: what the challenge is, why we are running it, who can enter, exactly how to enter, how judging works, the deadline, and how to make an entry that stands out.
Last checked: October 2026.
The TinyMerch Challenge is open to TinyFish students and ambassadors until Sunday 15 November, 11:59 PM PT. See the entries, or join the Student Program or Ambassador Program to enter.
TL;DR
- The TinyMerch Challenge is an open merch design competition for members of the TinyFish Student Program and Ambassador Program.
- Merch can be anything creative, in any form or format. If it's creative, it counts.
- To enter: claim the challenge on TinyBounties, upload images of your design with a short idea, and share a post on both LinkedIn and X that links to tinymerch.shop.
- The TinyFish team judges with creativity first, and live likes on tinymerch.shop count too. The winning design becomes a limited-edition TinyFish drop.
- Entries close Sunday 15 November 2026, 11:59 PM PT.

What is the TinyMerch Challenge?
Most merch design competitions follow the same pattern. An organization wants new merch, it publishes a brief, people send in artwork, and a panel picks a winner that gets printed. The TinyMerch Challenge keeps the good parts of that pattern and changes two things.
First, there is no fixed product list. A lot of contests ask you to design a T-shirt, a cap or a mug. We are not doing that. Merch can be anything creative, in any form or format. A sticker sheet, a wearable, a desk object, a zine, something digital, something you have never seen before. If it's creative, it counts.
Second, everything happens in public. Every entry goes up on the wall at tinymerch.shop as soon as it is submitted. Anyone can like and comment on it. So you are not sending a file into a black box and waiting for an email. You can see what other people are making, cheer them on, and watch reactions to your own idea in real time.
A quick word on TinyFish
If you are new here: TinyFish is one API that lets AI agents search, read and act on any website. Students use it to build agents for hackathons, side projects and paid bounties. You can read the docs if you are curious, but you do not need to write a line of code to enter this challenge. This one is about design and ideas.
Why we are running a merch design competition
We could have hired an agency. We chose not to, for three reasons.
Our community is the brand. The TinyFish Student Program and Ambassador Program are full of people who run clubs, host meetups, ship projects and show up for each other. The merch should look like it came from them, because it did.
Students and ambassadors should shape what we make. This is TinyFish's first merch drop. We want the people who wear it, stick it on their laptops and hand it out at events to have a real say in what it is.
Creative work deserves a stage. A lot of builders are also designers, illustrators, makers and storytellers. Not every student project has to be an app. The TinyMerch Challenge gives that side of you somewhere to show up, with a public wall and a real outcome.
Who can enter
The challenge is open to members of two programs:
- The TinyFish Student Program. Sign up with your school email at tinyfish.ai/students. Students get $35 in TinyFish credits when they join. You can read more in our guide to the TinyFish Student Program.
- The TinyFish Ambassador Program. If you run a community, club or campus group, apply at tinyfish.ai/ambassadors. Our post on the TinyFish Ambassador Program explains how it works.
You do not need to be a design student. You do not need professional software. If you have an idea and a way to show it, you can enter.
How to enter, step by step
Here is the full process. It takes a few minutes once your design is ready.
- Join a program. Become a member of the TinyFish Student Program (sign up with your school email) or the Ambassador Program. This is what makes you eligible.
- Go to TinyBounties. Head to TinyBounties and find the TinyMerch Challenge.
- Claim the challenge. Claiming it tells us you are taking part and connects your entry to your account.
- Upload your design. Add images of your design and a short description of the idea behind it. Show the merch clearly. If it is a physical object, a mockup or photo helps. If it is digital, screenshots or a short sequence of images work well.
- Post on LinkedIn. Share a post about your entry that links to tinymerch.shop.
- Post on X. Share a post on X that also links to tinymerch.shop.
- Watch the wall. Your entry appears on tinymerch.shop as soon as it is submitted. Send the link to friends, classmates and your community so they can like and comment.
Both social posts are required. An entry without a LinkedIn post and an X post linking to tinymerch.shop is not complete.
Entry checklist
Before you hit submit, check you have:
- Joined the TinyFish Student Program or Ambassador Program
- Claimed the TinyMerch Challenge on TinyBounties
- At least one clear image of your design
- A short written idea (what it is, who it is for, why it fits TinyFish)
- A LinkedIn post linking to tinymerch.shop
- An X post linking to tinymerch.shop
- Made sure the work is 100% your own original design
How judging works
The TinyFish team judges every entry. We look at creativity first. That means we care more about a fresh idea than a perfectly polished render. A rough sketch of something nobody has thought of can beat a slick design of something everyone has seen.
Live likes on tinymerch.shop count too. Because the wall is public, the community gets a voice. If people love your idea, that matters. This is also why the LinkedIn and X posts are part of entering: they bring people to the wall so they can see your work.
Original work only
This one is simple. Your entry has to be your own original work. Copies of other entries are rejected. Designs that copy other brands are rejected. It is fine to be inspired by a style or a medium, but the design itself has to come from you.
Key dates
- Open now: you can submit and see entries on tinymerch.shop today.
- Entries close: Sunday 15 November 2026, 11:59 PM PT.
PT is Pacific Time. If you are in Asia, Europe or anywhere else, convert the deadline to your own time zone so you do not miss it by a few hours. Earlier is better anyway: the sooner your entry is up, the more time it has to collect likes and comments.
Also worth knowing: Bounty Drop 002 on TinyBounties opens Sunday 1 November 2026. If you enjoy the TinyMerch Challenge, the paid build bounties are a good next step. Our guide on how to make money building AI as a student explains how that side works.
Ready to enter?
If you have been reading this with an idea already forming, that is the sign. Join the Student Program or Ambassador Program, claim the challenge on TinyBounties, and put your design on the wall. You can browse what others have made at tinymerch.shop first if you want to see the bar.
Tips for a strong entry
We cannot tell you what will win, because creativity is the point. But here is what tends to make an entry easier to love.
Start from an idea, not a logo
The weakest merch is usually a logo on a blank shirt. Ask yourself what TinyFish means to you. An agent that can read and act on any website. A small fish in a big ocean. A late-night hackathon. Then design from that feeling. If you want a starting point, our post on merch design ideas has plenty.
Pick a format that surprises us
Since merch can be anything creative, use that freedom. Think about where the object lives. On a desk, in a bag, at a meetup, on a screen. Something useful or playful often sticks in people's minds longer than something purely decorative. For more on turning an idea into a finished piece, read how to design merch.
Use the brand, then make it yours
You are welcome to use the TinyFish palette from our original brand guide:
- Orange Burst #FF6700
- Peachy Tan #FECB8B
- Mellow Yellow #E7FF84
- Emerald #1B7064
- Lagoon #00343B
- Tiny Black
- Warm Grey #E9E9DC
Our mascot is a cartoon goldfish, and you can bring it into your design if it fits your idea. You do not have to use any of this, though. If your concept needs a different direction, go for it and explain why in your short description.
Show it in context
Judges and voters need to picture the thing. A flat graphic is fine, but a mockup, a photo of a prototype, or a quick sketch of someone using it makes the idea land faster. If your merch is an experience or a digital object, show a few steps of how it works.
Write a short, clear idea
Your description is part of the entry. Two or three sentences is enough. Say what it is, who it is for and why it belongs to TinyFish. A clear idea can turn a good image into a memorable entry.
Share it well
Your LinkedIn and X posts are required, so make them count. Show the design, say one sentence about the idea, and link to tinymerch.shop. Ask your club, classmates and community to take a look. If you run a group, a short session where people sketch merch ideas together can be a fun event. Our guide on how to host a tech meetup can help with the logistics.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Uploading a single blurry image with no explanation
- Forgetting one of the two social posts
- Copying or closely tracing another entry or another brand's design
- Waiting until the last hour and missing the PT deadline
- Treating "merch" as only a T-shirt when you could do anything creative
What happens to the winner
The winning design becomes a limited-edition TinyFish drop. That means your idea leaves the screen and becomes real merch that people in the TinyFish community can wear, use, carry or play with. It is TinyFish's first merch drop, so the winner is literally setting the tone for everything that comes after.
Beyond that, your entry stays on the wall at tinymerch.shop as part of the record of how this all started. Even if you do not win, you walk away with a public, shareable piece of creative work, and a portfolio piece you can point to. If you like entering contests like this, we also put together a list of design competitions for students.
How the TinyMerch Challenge compares to other merch design competitions
If you have looked at other contests, a few differences stand out:
- No fixed product. Many merch contests are about a specific item, often a T-shirt. Ours is open to any form or format.
- A live public wall. Entries go up as soon as they are submitted, and anyone can like and comment.
- Community input. Live likes count alongside the team's judging.
- Built for students and community builders. It is run through the TinyFish Student Program and Ambassador Program, so you are entering alongside people who build and organize like you.
Final thoughts
We want TinyFish's first merch drop to feel like it came from the people who make this community what it is. That is you. Pick an idea, make it real enough to show, post it on the wall and tell people about it. We cannot wait to see what you make.
